#How It Works: Steep, Then Drain
- Seat the paper filter and add grounds. 2. Pour in all your water at once and stir. 3. Let it steep (typically 2–4 minutes). 4. Place the Clever on your mug — the valve opens and the brew drains through the paper.
Because the coffee fully submerges for the whole steep, extraction is even and the pour barely matters — there is no channeling to worry about. Then the paper filter catches the oils and fines on the way out, delivering the clarity an open immersion brewer like the French Press can't. The valve gives you precise control over total contact time — the single most powerful variable here.
