IPA Festivals and Competitions
Festivals and competitions are where the IPA world gathers — to pour, to judge, and to crown. For a drinker, they are the single most efficient way to taste many of the beers on the Best IPAs lists side by side, and to see which beers the wider community rates.
A competition medal is a credible signal, but it is still the verdict of one panel on one day, judged against style guidelines. Treat awards the same way you treat the lists in How These Were Selected — informed, useful, not absolute.

The Great American Beer Festival in Denver is both a public tasting event and a blind-judged competition spanning dozens of IPA sub-categories — West Coast IPA, New England IPA, Double IPA, Session IPA, Black IPA and more. The World Beer Cup, run by the same organization on a two-year cycle, is the closest thing the industry has to a world championship.
#Hop- and IPA-focused festivals
Beyond general competitions, dedicated events celebrate the IPA specifically:
- Fresh-hop / wet-hop festivals in the Pacific Northwest, timed to the autumn harvest in the Hop Growing Regions, showcase IPAs brewed with un-dried hops.
